Chapter 3, We Interrupt this Novel

Chapter Three, first draft

I know you were hoping to read more about the extreme emergency that the Fox family is about to face. However. . . I am now going to let you into the author's life.
Yes, I know, I am breaking down the third wall of the metaphorical stage here, but things happen. And what happened today gobbled up all my writing time. I'm not complaining. My grandson is a twelve year old rough and tumble kind of guy who goes at everything full force. Yesterday he got hit on the head on the playground during recess at his school, and he got a concussion. The nurse had him lie down, then got him back to class where concentration was not possible, and then he came home on the bus. Today, I was called by my son to bring him to the doctor's just in case. Just in case it was more serious than met the eye. Slight headache.
So, at the doctor's office, my grandson was declared to have a significant concussion. He is seriously bummed that he may not watch any screens for several day, maybe even a week. He may not play his final football game for the Silver Bullets of Barnstable this weekend. He may not do his homework, he may not go to school tomorrow, he may not participate in gym until the doc says so, he is to have half a homework load when he goes back to school. But, he can eat! So we went to Friendly's after the doctor's visit where he got confused deciding upon his lunch and kept forgetting what we were talking about. I am so glad that his brain has been ordered to take a break by a medical professional.
After spending some time with him to be sure he was OK, and then handing him over to his father,  I got home and did my work on getting press releases out for the project I am working on. Since I have your attention, I'm posting the press release below. If you have time, I think you should come to the free viewing of this film. It's all very relative to this here little novel I am trying to write. Forget that word try.  I AM writing it.

As a matter of fact, I have it all worked out in my head what happens next, and a whole new character is introduced. So please, come back tomorrow, and I will have a colorful chapter of pandemonium and panic for you to read.  And to the other writers at National Novel Writing Month, I don't think this is cheating. I think this is just a little pause that lets the reader know what is going on in the writers head and life. It's all very germane, really.

 So here's the press release:

A free viewing of the award winning documentary film Containment will be shown at the Cape Cod Community College, Science Building Lecture Hall A,  at 7:00 PM on November 18, followed by a Q & A period with State Senator Dan Wolf and Pilgrim Watch Executive Director Mary Lampert. This event is free to the public, sponsored by the Pilgrim Legislative Advisory Coalition. The film shines a light on one of the most compelling problems our generation faces. Since World War II, we have amassed thousands of tons of radioactive waste, which will remain dangerous for hundreds of generations to come. How do we safely store it, and how do we create enduring cautionary markers that will alert future populations of the invisible dangers of radiation storage sites for thousands of years to come?  Containment is directed by Peter Galison and Robb Moss, both Harvard professors and documentary filmmakers.
